Sacred Spaces Birth Services

Ham Lake, MN

Midwife

  • Sacred Spaces Birth Services is one of those providers we feel genuinely grateful to know, trust, and refer families to. Jen brings a beautiful balance of knowledge, confidence, humility, and deep respect for the natural process of birth.

Before becoming a midwife, Jen served families for many years as a doula, and that foundation is so evident in the way she cares for women. She understands both the emotional and physical side of birth, and she has a gift for helping families feel informed, capable, and deeply respected.

One of the things I appreciate most about Jen is the empowering way she speaks to women. Her words and tone carry both wisdom and confidence, helping families feel more grounded in their choices and more trusting of the birth process. She is incredibly well-educated, thoughtful, and discerning in her approach to care.

Jen’s love for the Lord is so evident in the way she shows up for families. Her care is steady, humble, and deeply honoring, reflecting a heart that values both the sacredness of birth and the dignity of each family she serves.

We have had the honor of supporting births alongside Jen, including water births, VBACs, and other beautiful home birth experiences. In the birth space, she knows when to offer quiet, hands-off midwifery care that allows a mother to follow her body’s lead, and she also knows when a more hands-on approach may be beneficial. That kind of discernment is such a gift.

Jen’s care reflects a deep commitment to ethical, respectful, family-centered midwifery. She brings both skill and heart into the room, and we trust the way she supports families with education, wisdom, and steady confidence.

Best for: Families seeking home birth midwifery care, VBAC-informed support, water birth support, empowering education, and respectful, family-centered care.

Midwife Mykl

Bagley, MN

Midwife

  • Midwife Mykl is a unique and valuable resource for families seeking midwifery care in Northern Minnesota and Eastern North Dakota. Based in Bagley, MN, he serves families across a wide rural area, including many families who may have fewer local birth support options available to them.

One thing we deeply appreciate about Mykl is the way he educates families on a wide variety of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum topics. His teaching reflects a strong desire to help families feel informed, prepared, and confident as they make decisions for their care.

We also appreciate that Mykl incorporates a strong focus on body awareness, positioning, and Spinning Babies®-informed education. This can be especially helpful for families wanting to better understand how baby’s position, movement, and maternal comfort may influence labor. His emphasis on practical preparation gives families tools they can use during pregnancy and birth as they work toward a more supported, informed experience.

Mykl is also trained in breech birth, which is a meaningful area of knowledge and skill in the birth world. We value providers who continue learning, expanding their education, and supporting families with thoughtful, informed care around more nuanced birth situations.

Another thing that stands out about Mykl’s work is his heart for serving rural communities, including the Amish community. His willingness to show up for families across different settings and needs speaks to a deep commitment to accessible, relationship-centered midwifery care.

In addition to midwifery care, Mykl also teaches childbirth education classes, helping families prepare for birth with practical information, confidence, and support. We appreciate the way he always appears willing to go above and beyond for the families he serves, offering education and care that helps families feel more equipped for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

A New Story Birth Center

Milaca, MN + Brainerd, MN

Midwife

  • Heart Strings Birth Services is a beautiful resource for families seeking experienced and deeply birth-centered support. Elizabeth began serving families as a doula and childbirth educator nearly 25 years ago, and that depth of experience is such a gift.

One thing we deeply appreciate about Elizabeth is the way she shares education, experiences, and positive birth stories with such joy and passion. Her heart for birth is inspiring, and she has a beautiful way of reminding families that birth can be powerful, meaningful, and full of hope.

We also deeply appreciate Elizabeth’s holistic approach to pregnancy and birth. She speaks about birth with a beautiful trust in the way God designed women’s bodies, while still valuing wisdom, preparation, and thoughtful support. Her encouragement helps families see birth as something to prepare for with education and discernment, but also with confidence, hope, and trust in the body’s natural ability to birth.

Elizabeth also brings incredible personal experience into her work as a mother who has had 11 home births herself, including the birth of twins. That lived experience gives her a unique perspective and a deep understanding of the beauty, intensity, surrender, and faith involved in birth.

We appreciate the way Heart Strings Birth Services offers families encouragement, education, and a vision for birth that feels both grounded and life-giving.

  • Evenson Women’s Health & Midwifery offers a unique blend of midwifery care, extended postpartum support, and functional women’s health services. Beth and Carrie work closely together in their practice, bringing a team-based approach to caring for women through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and beyond.

Something that makes their practice especially unique is the history they share as providers. Beth and Carrie have worked together for years, beginning in a hospital setting before eventually moving into midwifery care and opening their own practice together. That long-standing partnership is evident in the way they care for families. They bring a shared rhythm, aligned values, and a deep understanding of one another’s strengths into the care they provide.

One thing we appreciate about their midwifery care is their respect for the natural birth process. They often take a more hands-off approach during birth, allowing labor to unfold while remaining present, attentive, and prepared to step in when needed. For families who value calm, watchful midwifery care, this can be a meaningful part of their birth experience.

A beautiful part of their birth support package is that they offer postpartum care for up to one year. That extended care matters deeply. Beth and Carrie place a strong emphasis on making sure moms continue to feel seen, heard, and supported long after birth.

They have shared that their practice sees very low rates of postpartum mood disorders, which they credit in part to their extended postpartum support and the way they continue caring for mothers through that first year. We deeply value providers who recognize that postpartum care should not end after one brief visit.

Beyond pregnancy and birth, Evenson Women’s Health & Midwifery also offers functional medicine support, with care that may include hormones, preconception, fertility, and whole-person women’s health. This can be a wonderful option for families looking for support before pregnancy, between pregnancies, or well into motherhood.

Their care may be an especially good fit for families who appreciate clear communication, thorough education, functional wellness support, and a midwifery team that values both the natural process of birth and the long-term wellbeing of mothers.

Best for: Families seeking home birth midwifery care, extended postpartum care, functional medicine, hormone support, preconception care, fertility support, and direct, team-based midwifery care.

In the birth space, Mariah brings patience, trust, and calm confidence. She supports families with thoughtful, attentive care while remaining aware of potential risks and prepared to respond if concerns arise or transfer becomes needed.

Mariah’s love for the Lord is evident in the way she cares for families. Her presence is gentle, grounded, and deeply honoring, reflecting a heart that values both the sacredness of birth and the unique story God is writing within each family.

Mariah supports home birth families, including families planning VBAC, with an approach that values both trust in the birth process and wise, prepared care. We appreciate the way she helps families feel cared for, informed, and equipped as they prepare for birth.

We also deeply appreciate the way Mariah weaves her knowledge of herbs and natural remedies into both her practice and everyday life. She brings a thoughtful, grounded understanding of holistic support, offering families natural options and education when appropriate.

Another thing I value is the depth of education she carries across many birth, wellness, and family health topics. She is willing to have thoughtful conversations around topics that are often nuanced or misunderstood, helping families ask questions, consider their options, and make informed decisions with greater confidence.

Best for: Families seeking home birth midwifery care, holistic support, VBAC-informed conversations, herbal support, informed decision-making, and relationship-centered care.

CentraCare Monticello Midwives

Monticello, MN

Midwife

  • Jessica Borgstrom and the midwife team at CentraCare Monticello are a wonderful option for families seeking midwifery care within a quieter hospital setting. We deeply appreciate that the midwives support the majority of births at this hospital, which can create a different feel for families who desire a more naturally minded, relationship-centered approach while still choosing hospital birth.

Our team has had the honor of supporting births with Jessica and the CentraCare Monticello midwife team, and we have seen the care and calm they bring into the birth space. Jessica especially stands out for her warm, steady presence and the way she supports families with respect, encouragement, and thoughtful care.

One thing we value about this hospital setting is that it often feels more calm and personal than many larger hospital environments. For families who want access to hospital resources but still desire supportive midwifery care, lower-intervention options, and a birth team that respects the natural process of labor, CentraCare Monticello can be a beautiful fit to explore.

We appreciate providers who help families feel informed, supported, and respected while honoring both the wisdom of the body and the importance of attentive care. Jessica and the midwife team bring that kind of support into the birth space, and we are grateful to refer families looking for naturally minded hospital-based midwifery care.

  • The Mercy Hospital Midwife Team in Coon Rapids is a wonderful option for families who desire midwifery care within a hospital setting. For some families, this balance feels like the best of both worlds, relationship-centered, supportive care with the additional resources and structure of a hospital environment.

One thing we appreciate about this team is the way hospital-based midwifery can offer families a more personalized and supportive approach to birth while still providing quick access to medical care if additional support becomes needed. For families who want a lower-intervention approach but feel most comfortable birthing in a hospital, this can be a meaningful option to explore.

We especially appreciate Samantha Manning and the gentle, caring presence she brings into birth. Her approach feels supportive, calm, and respectful, helping families feel seen and cared for as they prepare for and move through labor.

Another thing many families value about Mercy is the possibility of waterbirth in a hospital setting for those who qualify and when it is available. This can be a beautiful option for families who desire the comfort and relaxation of water while also choosing a hospital-based birth experience.

We appreciate providers who honor the natural process of birth while also bringing wisdom, attentiveness, and thoughtful care into the room. The Mercy midwife team may be a wonderful fit for families seeking supportive hospital-based midwifery care in the North Metro.

Best for: Families seeking hospital-based midwifery care, a supportive low-intervention birth approach, waterbirth options in a hospital setting, gentle care, and birth support in the Coon Rapids.

  • A New Story Birth Center is a place we feel deeply confident referring families to when they are looking for midwifery care in a peaceful, home-like setting. Deb and Jolene are wonderful midwives who offer birth support at their beautiful birth center locations.

We have had the privilege of supporting births alongside them in the birth center setting, and there is something truly special about the environment they have created. Their rooms feel warm, calm, spacious, and thoughtfully prepared for families who desire a more natural, intimate birth experience while still having skilled midwifery care close at hand.

One thing I love about A New Story is the balance they offer. The birth center has such a peaceful, country, homey feel, beautiful birth rooms, large bathrooms, birth tubs, and windows that look out toward nature and wildlife. At the same time, they are well-equipped with many practical tools for labor, including birth slings, birth balls, peanut balls, a vibration plate, and other supportive resources that can be used during pregnancy and labor.

Deb and Jolene also bring thoughtful care into the birth space, including homeopathy when appropriate, hands-on support when needed, and the ability to provide certain clinical care within their scope, such as repair if stitching is needed after birth. Their care feels both nurturing and prepared, which is something we value so much when referring families.

A New Story also offers childbirth education classes at the birth center, giving families another opportunity to feel more informed, comfortable, and connected before birth. We appreciate the way they create space for families to feel cared for, respected, and supported as they prepare for labor, birth, and postpartum.

Best for: Families seeking birth center birth, a peaceful country setting, water birth options, holistic support, childbirth education, and a warm, home-like environment with skilled midwifery care.
