Sibling Doula Support in Minnesota

Loving, birth-informed care for older children while your family welcomes a new baby.

Welcoming a new baby is sacred, beautiful, and often a big transition for the whole family - especially older siblings. Our sibling doula support gives your children a calm, trusted presence during labor and birth so you can focus on bringing your baby into the world while knowing your older children are cared for, comforted, and gently supported.

Serving families throughout the Twin Cities Metro, Central Minnesota, and surrounding areas.

Support for the Whole Family

At Kingdom Beginnings, we believe birth support should care for the whole family - not just the mom.

Sibling doula support is designed for families who want their older children to be lovingly cared for during labor and birth. Whether your children will be present in the home, nearby during a home birth, or simply need consistent care while you are at the hospital or birth center, a sibling doula helps protect the peace of the birth space while supporting your children through this transition.

This can be especially helpful for families planning a home birth, birth center birth, or hospital birth without nearby family support.

What Sibling Doula Support Includes

  • Before birth, your sibling doula will meet with your family and spend time getting to know your child or children. This visit helps your children become familiar with the doula before labor begins and gives parents time to share routines, preferences, allergies, comfort items, meal needs, bedtime rhythms, and any specific concerns.

This visit may include simple play, conversation, reading a book together, talking about baby in an age-appropriate way, or simply allowing your child to warm up naturally.

  • Your sibling doula is available when labor begins, so your family has a plan in place before birth unfolds. Because labor can be unpredictable, this support is designed to bring peace of mind to families who want steady, birth-aware childcare during the birth window.

This is especially helpful for families who do not want to scramble for childcare once contractions begin.

  • Your sibling doula provides up to 24 hours of continuous care during labor and birth. Depending on your family’s needs, this may include play, meals and snacks, rest time, bedtime routines, emotional reassurance, age-appropriate explanations, and helping your child feel safe and cared for while parents focus on birth.

For home birth families, this may also include helping children move between being near the birth space and taking breaks elsewhere in the home as needed.

  • When the timing is right, your sibling doula can help support the transition of your older child meeting the new baby. This might include helping them wash hands, slow down, ask questions, give space, bring a gift or drawing, or simply process the excitement and emotions of the moment.

The goal is never to force involvement, but to gently support connection in a way that feels peaceful for your family.

  • Your sibling doula can provide updates as desired so you know how your children are doing without needing to manage every detail yourself. Some families prefer occasional updates, while others want communication only if needed. This can be discussed ahead of time during the prenatal visit.

Pricing includes care for up to two children. Families with more children may require an additional fee or custom support plan, depending on ages, needs, and birth location.

Sibling Doula Support for Home, Birth Center + Hospital Births

Sibling doula support can look different depending on where you give birth.

For a home birth, your sibling doula may care for your children in another area of the home, help them take breaks outside or in a bedroom, support meals and bedtime, and help them enter the birth space only when appropriate.

For a birth center or hospital birth, your sibling doula may care for your children at home or another agreed-upon location while parents are away.

For families who want siblings nearby, we can talk through what is realistic, safe, and supportive based on your birth setting, your children’s ages, and your provider’s policies.
