Anna Miller-Gyasse
Postpartum Doula
Serving Twin Cities Metro
Nice to meet you! I'm Anna Miller, a postpartum doula and women’s & kids chiropractor serving the Minneapolis region.
I strive both professionally and personally to help moms & dads be heard, empowered, and feel safe.
A helper by nature (hello Acts of Service people), I try my best to help others feel a bit less stressed every day. As a postpartum doula, that may be rocking your baby to sleep, washing the 100th bottle, or attempting an egg bake recipe, I'm your gal.
I am a semi-crunchy, coffee-loving wife and boy mom of a busy baby. We love to travel and spend time at a lake in the summer, and in the leaves in the fall. Our Christian faith and being inclusive is very important in my home. I believe in being welcoming & supportive of people of any background and that informed choice matters.
I decided to pursue postpartum doula work more strongly after the birth of my own baby. During pregnancy, I had a routine with weekly chiropractic care, massage, acupuncture, and prenatal visits. When my son was born after an emergent C-section, the body work was less consistent and prenatal visits came to a halt after 6 weeks.
I felt isolated, fatigued, unseen and that I couldn't do anything right. I didn't believe then that postpartum depression and anxiety can creep in with lack of sleep, undernourishment, and no time to yourself. Being deep in the prenatal and postpartum space as a chiropractor, knowing better doesn't always mean you do better. Nor that you can be immune to being a human with feelings & needs. I thought "everyone must feel this way, but how can I continue to feel this way?". It was a very dark time for me in a season that is supposed to bring joy.
When I finally hired my own postpartum doula, I noticed the change in how I felt. I could take a nap, shower, go exercise, or simply take a breather without waiting to respond to my son's cry. My nervous system had the rest it needed to be a better parent, partner, and person. I started to feel more like Anna again.
Pregnancy & postpartum shape you in more ways than you expect. It impacts your body, mind, and truly your soul. You become a different individual when you become a mom. Men are not immune to this, even though it changes them differently.
That is why I believe that postpartum support is critical and necessary. It should be on every Baby Shower registry. It should be planned in advance before you feel spread thin, you're mad googling at 3 am and can't sleep, or your marriage is at a tipping point.
I've been there. I want no family to go there.
I would be honored to be your family's doula.
With kindness & love,
Anna
