Frequently Asked Questions

What is a birth worker collective?

A birth collective is a group of independent birth workers, think doulas, childbirth educators, lactation consultants, and postpartum professionals, who work together under a shared name or mission to support families through the delicate season of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

At Kingdom Beginnings Birth Services, our collective is made up of passionate, faith-led professionals who each run their own independent practice while collaborating to ensure every family has access to trusted, personalized care. This model allows us to offer shared wisdom, strong backup support, and a wide range of services, all while honoring the unique strengths of each doula.

When should I hire a doula?

It’s never too early, or too late! Many families hire a doula in the second trimester, but parents also reach out just weeks before birth. If you’re considering it, let’s connect and see if we’re a good fit!

How do I choose the right doula for me?

Once you inquire with us, we’ll guide you through a discovery process to help match you with a doula who aligns with your personality, values, and birth goals. You’ll have the opportunity to chat with who feels like the best fit to ensure they are the right doula for you before hiring them.

Could I really benefit from a doula if I have a supportive partner?

Absolutely! A supportive partner is an incredible asset during birth, but a doula serves a different yet complementary role.

  • A doula supports both you & your partner

Your partner may deeply care for you but might not know how to provide hands-on support during labor. As your doula we can offer your partner guidance and also offer this myself.

  • A doula brings experience & expertise

Your partner loves you, but they may not be familiar with the stages of labor or how to advocate for your wishes in a medical setting

  •  A doula helps keep the atmosphere calm & focused

  •  Your partner’s love + A doula’s support = THE BEST TEAM

Your partner knows you emotionally better than anyone, while a doula understands birth deeply. Together, they make a powerful team to support you physically, emotionally, and spiritually throughout your journey.

Bottom Line: If you have a supportive partner, a doula doesn’t replace them! They enhance the experience for both of you!

What if I get an epidural?

A doula supports all types of births, including medicated births. we can help you stay comfortable while you wait for the epidural, assist with positioning after it's placed, and help ensure your birth plan is still honored.

Can I have a doula if I have a C-section?

Yes! Whether planned or unexpected, we can support you before, during, and after a C-section birth by:

Helping you prepare emotionally and physically.

Being with you in the operating room (when permitted).

Providing postpartum support to help with healing and newborn care.

What if I don't know what kind of support I need?

That’s okay! Every birth and postpartum experience is unique. Let’s chat, and we can help you figure out what support would be most helpful for you and your family.

What are the benefits of hiring a doula?

Hiring a doula is a very personal choice, however there are several studies that point directly to the great impact a doula can have on your birth regardless of home, birth center, hospital, medicated, unmedicated, vaginal or cesarean. Some of these include:

-Decreased Cesarean rate

-Increased likelihood of spontaneous labor

-Decrease in use of pain meds

-Shorter labor

-Decreased risk of low apgar at 5 minutes

-Decrease in dissatisfaction with the experience

What is the difference between a doula and a midwife?

This is one of the most common questions we get, so let's go through it!

  • A midwife is a trained medical professional responsible for the clinical aspects of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. They monitor your health, your baby’s wellbeing, perform exams, attend your birth to oversee safety, and can catch your baby. Midwives are a wonderful option for families looking for personalized, low-intervention medical care—but they may not always be present throughout your entire labor. Their primary focus is medical safety.

  • A doula is not a medical provider. Instead, a doula offers emotional, physical, informational, and spiritual support throughout your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey. Additionally, doulas offer partner support and help you advocate for yourself, which is a lifelong tool to carry with you! Think of a doula as your personal guide, coach, and constant grounding presence, someone who’s there for the tears, the triumphs, the questions, the unexpected moments, and everything in between.

Where midwives focus on the health of your body, doulas also focus on the health of your heart and mind.

Birth is so much more than just a physical event. It is emotional, mental, and deeply spiritual as well. It’s a life changing experience that deserves whole-person support.

As your doula, we will stay by your side continuously, offering comfort measures, encouragement for you and your partner, faith-based presence, advocacy tools, and practical guidance so you feel seen, heard, and supported at every step.

Together, midwives and doulas make an amazing team, but we serve in different and both very important roles. You don’t have to choose one or the other... YOU CAN HAVE BOTH!!!

What happens if my doula is unavailable when I go into labor?

In the rare event your doula is unavailable, a trusted backup from within our collective will step in. All backup doulas are familiar with your birth preferences and trained to provide seamless, compassionate care.

What does it mean that your doulas are independent contractors?

Each doula in our collective operates their own business while collaborating under the Kingdom Beginnings umbrella. This means you get the personal attention of an independent provider, along with the support and resources of a connected team always collaborating. This is a great benefit to hiring a birth doula or postpartum doula through an agency!
